NEW URINE BOTTLES
Suspected Urine infections – Red Top Urine Bottles
If you think you have a urine infection, please collect a red topped specimen bottle from reception, along with a patient form:
The sample needs to be fresh i.e. taken within the last 6 hours
Red topped bottles are for SUSPECTED INFECTION ONLY.
They contain powder which helps preserve the urine sample so a more accurate result is gained on testing.
Keep it upright and it is vital that you fill the red topped bottle to the top of the label, otherwise the lab will reject it.
Medication Reviews, Diabetic Screening or a retest following an infection – White Top Bottles
White topped bottles will remain in use for DIABETIC SCREENING, MEDICATION REVIEWS OR RETEST FOLLOWING INFECTION.
Please contact reception if you are unsure which urine bottle to use.
