Ryan Ilott, Advanced Nurse Practitioner

I was born and brought up in the market town of Newbury in Berkshire. I was the first and only person in my family to go to university where I graduated with a diploma in nursing. I always had dreams and aspirations to work in London in a busy trauma emergency department and to travel the world. One year after qualifying and working in rural emergency departments, I accepted a job at Kings College Hospital, London. I spent the next few years working in the Accident and Emergency department as Sister and Trauma Lead Nurse consolidating my skills and undertaking further training. Although I loved living and working in London I had a desire to travel and so I accepted a job as a nurse practitioner working on cruise ships. I have been extremely lucky and sailed most of the world and been to all 7 continents. In 2013 I moved to Nottingham and took a leap in to general practice where I have been working as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner managing long term conditions and minor injuries and illness. I enjoy all areas of general practice. In my spare time I like to keep fit, travel the world and spend time with my family.

Ryan leads the nursing team at Appletree. She runs her own clinics for patients presenting with acute illnesses (i.e. illnesses which will eventually run their course) and chronic illnesses (i.e. a disease that has formed over a long period of time). Ryan can diagnose, treat and manage common ailments and routinely deals with ear, chest and urine infections. She sees patients with musculoskeletal problems and offers contraceptive advice, emergency contraception and prescribes medication. Ryan will see temporary residents for urgent problems, and refers patients for specialist intervention.
